2005 Decorators' Showhouse - Keeping Room
Points of Interest
- Our goal was to create a comfortable room that was still elegant. We tried to capture this casually elegant look through the window treatments and the fabric used on the furniture (chenille, quilted fabric on the wing chair and leather ottomans and cubes.)
- A major focus of the room was the ability to showcase many beautiful pieces of original artwork, including a large oil painting by Marty Steffi which can be seen from the loft, a diptych above the sofa by M. Catherine Hurley and a bronze sculpture by Denson Parker. In addition, the built-ins were a great place to showcase many smaller oil paintings by Michael Sherman.
- The placement of the furniture is focused around the fireplace and the entertainment center and has enough seating to accommodate 8-12 people.
- We did not change any of the original word work, Venetian plaster or carpeting. This is a challenge many designers face when designing a room – they have to work with the existing elements in the room.
- The Keeping Room includes a table and chairs for more casual dining.
